The Marin County Fair is a beloved Fourth of July tradition that brings together live entertainment, carnival rides, games, exhibits, local food, and family-friendly activities at the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael, California. Set beside the lagoon at the Marin County Civic Center, the fair offers a colorful celebration of Marin County’s community, creativity, and culture.

As evening falls, the excitement builds toward one of the fair’s biggest attractions: the Fourth of July fireworks show. Launched over the lagoon, the fireworks fill the sky above the fairgrounds with brilliant colors, dramatic patterns, and carefully timed bursts. Reflections across the water add another layer to the display, while the surrounding fair lights and cheering crowd create a festive Independence Day atmosphere.

The July 4, 2026, celebration was especially meaningful because it marked the 250th anniversary of American independence. The fireworks show provided a memorable conclusion to a full day at the fair, combining the energy of the midway with the spectacle of a major holiday celebration.

Behind the Video

For this night, I was behind the camera working with a reporter in the field. I am usually in the control room directing these events but it was a chance to get out and shoot video live. I was shooting in a reserved spot at the fairgrounds with a camera and tripod. We also had an interesting setup of a small dish that was beaming a wifi signal to our location from across the building so we would not lose connection. We were in touch with the control room via IFB. I shot the video like my camera was hot the entire time because I was not sure when my shot would be taken.
